THE HISTORY OF THE TRIUMPH TR3
The Triumph TR3 made its debut in October 1955. It was produced by the Standard Motor Company in the United Kingdom, which would go on to produce 13,377 cars. Only 1,286 cars were for the British market, with the rest of the production being exported to the American market.
In 2002, 893 TR3/TR3As were registered in the United Kingdom. Originally a convertible, it had two seats. A third seat and a hardtop were available as options.
It enabled Annie Soisbault to win the Paris – Saint-Raphaël Women’s Rally in 1959.
FEATURES OF THE TRIUMPH TR3
It is a simple evolution of the Triumph TR2. Aesthetically, compared to the TR2, it is characterized by a slightly modified grille with a flush aluminum grille and the introduction of chrome.
At the rear, the central Stop light is replaced by 2 lights located at the ends of the wings. Consequently, two separate indicators appear more centrally on the rear trunk.
The “Standard 2 Litre” engine develops 95 hp at 5,000 rpm thanks to larger carburetors (S.U HS6), and disc brakes were optional.
Disc brakes became standard from September 1956. In the summer of 1957, the TR3 was no longer produced and was replaced by the TR3A.
